Frequently Asked Questions

Why Homeschooling?
Homeschooling is more than just education; it’s a lifestyle that fosters personalized learning, strong family bonds, and faith-centered growth. At HV Academy, we support this journey by providing resources, community, and a structured environment where your child can thrive both academically and spiritually.

What is HV Academy?
We are a homeschool hybrid program. We support homeschool families by offering in person classes for language arts, math, and Bible in a structured yet creative environment.

What grades do you support?
Our program is currently available for TK through 6th grade. Seventh grade will be added to the 2026 school year.

How often do you meet?
TK through 7th grade meets weekly on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30AM – 2:30PM.

How much is tuition?
Please see our tuition page, located under “Our Program” for more details.

Do you plan to add additional grades in the future?
Yes! We plan to add additional grades each year.

How large are your class sizes?
Each class has a maximum of 15 students.

What if I’m already enrolled in a Charter Program?
Many families have been able to utilize programs similar to ours along with their charter program, however, since we are a Christian program, public charters will not allocate funds towards our tuition.

Do I need to file any paperwork with the state?
If you are not enrolled in a public charter and your child is 6 years of age or older, you’ll need to personally file a PSA (Private School Affidavit). We can assist with instructions on how to do this.

Do you offer any after school electives?
Not at this time but we hope to do so in the future.

Who is responsible for maintaining my child’s transcripts, school records, etc.?
HV Academy does not maintain student records. If your child is enrolled in a charter program, their records will be held through the charter. If you are filing a Private School Affidavit, it is your responsibility to maintain their records, but we will provide you with attendance and progress reports upon request.

What is my responsibility as the parent?
Because this program is a partnership between HV Academy and the family, parental involvement is essential to each student’s success. We ask that families commit to setting aside adequate instructional time on the two at-home learning days each week to:

  • Ensure that all assigned lessons, worksheets, and projects are completed in a timely manner and turned in.

  • Provide appropriate supervision, guidance, and support during home learning days.

  • Maintain a consistent routine that allows my child to keep pace with classroom instruction.

What is the age requirement for TK?
Our TK program is geared towards students who are four years of age by September 1 st, however, we do reserve a limited number of spaces each year for students who will turn four before December 31 st. As a requirement for early enrollment, we offer trial days to ensure the program is a good fit and your child is ready to enroll.

How do I know if my child is ready for TK?
If you’re able to answer yes to the below questions, your child is most likely ready to begin TK. If not, a pre-school environment may be more appropriate for the time being.

  • Are they able to use the bathroom independently, wash hands, put on a backpack, and open lunch containers?

  • Are they able to separate from parents, share, take turns, and manage emotions (like calming down with minimal help)?

  • Are they able to sit for short periods (5–10 minutes) and follow simple two-step instructions?

  • Are they able to hold a crayon/pencil, cut with scissors, and play with blocks or play dough?

  • Do they show curiosity about letters, numbers, and shapes?

What are signs that a child may need more time before starting TK?

  • Do they have frequent tantrums during transitions or routine changes?

  • Do they have difficulty interacting with peers, sharing, or taking turns?

  • Do they have high sensory sensitivities, such as consistent distress in noisy environments?
